Wow...I checked out this video not expecting Gillan's voice to be as good as Neely's. I was very, very wrong!

Both of you guys should get jobs and move out of Mommy and Daddy's basement. Lose your virginity for Christ's sake.

very well said, YOUR opinion. if someone else likes Neeley better let him be;) not everybody has the same taste.

Yes, thin and powerless, or strong and powerful. If any producer prefers thin and powerless, then they should be fired. Doesn't it speak volumes to you that all of the producers of the movie and lloyd webber and tim rice wanted Gillan for the movie and the stage production above everybody else? Even after Neeley filled in for Fenholt in the 71' production, they still asked Gillan to come back 3 years later in 73'. They did not want Neeley for it, and rightly so in my opinion.

that not completly true. it's just wich sound producer/mixer/engineer you ask it, different styles of music bring different tone's and Timbre's, so your statement isn't really as firm as you thought it was. putting this a side it still comes to taste;)

I think the work of guillan in this performance was great, he brings the style of this character for the next generations of artists who performs Jesus in Andrew's masterpiece, he gave us rock in a musical theatre.

I'm referring to the people on here who are talking about tone and timbre when they have no idea what they're talking about. I can guarantee you that if you asked any sound engineer or mixer or producer they would have taken Gillan over Neeley, 100 percent of them no question. One is thin, emotional, but thin, and the other one was forced to act emotional when getting paid huge amounts of money for a three hour session, and still made it work.(Gillan)
