Just horrible what was done to innocent people (native Americans), and we know that some tried to change the History books, like Bush will try to do also.

It aint where were from or even who we are but whats in our hearts that defines us. The spirit of the cherokee will never die.

I am not of Cherokee ancestry, but my Better Half is and his comment: "they'll never understand that the medicine man works in oncology, his tee-pee is a split level, his pony an SUV, his buckskins bought at the mall, his wampum invested on Wall Street, his Gr-at Sp-rit is Nicene Creed, his "special" music Sibelius and his "special" food Szechuan. We have overcome and I don't have to wear a feather to prove I'm an Indian."

O-si-yo! Excellent! The Cherokee are a NATION, not a race. Some estimates put the number of full blood Europeans sent packing on the Trail of Tears at 20%. Blood quantum is a federal imposition under the Dawes roll. The Cherokee NATION was sent to Oklahoma. Tens of thousands of mixed bloods were able to stay and their descendents, now in the hundreds of thousands, are still here and, no, they're not wannabes, just conscious of their roots...
